Curb Appeal Matters - Getting The Outside Of Your Home Ready To Sell

Blog

If you are about to sell your home, the first thing that potential homebuyers are going to see is the outside of your home. Even if you have focused on the inside of your house for property listing photos, don't forget that a few minor upgrades to your yard and exterior can make a difference as well. Here are four quick fixes when it comes to sprucing up your home's curb appeal when you are selling.

1. Freshen Up Your Home's Exterior

If the outside of your home looks dingy or has peeling paint, this can cause homebuyers to run the other way. If your home just has years of dust and dirt build up, a quick power wash can make your home look as good as new. If your home's exterior hasn't had much TLC, a paint job might be in order to update your home's look.

2. De-Clutter Your Yard

No one wants to see your rusty old bikes or tools out in the yard. Items in your yard might blend into the background for you, but potential home buyers will see these eyesores. Try to get everything up and out of your yard. Store things you would like to keep or throw out old furniture and tools that are beyond their use.

3. Mulch if No Grass

If your yard has seen better days, you might want to put in a new lawn but not have the time. Another great option is to clear out any weeds and put down a layer or mulch. This will have a nice color to it and will make your yard quickly look well maintained in property listings and in person. This will make your home show well, and potential buyers can then do what they would like with their landscape when they move in.

4. Staging Your Patio

If you can set the scene on your deck or patio, potential home buyers will be more apt to envision themselves enjoying barbecues and get-togethers in their new backyard. It is worth it to purchase or borrow patio furniture and set this up as an additional outdoor living space. The charm of an inviting backyard can be a major selling point when it comes to home buyers.

Make sure to envision the exterior of your home as potential homebuyers will see this in property listings and when they come to view your home. You should have your realtor take a hard look as well and tell you more specific upgrades that can help. The more work you do up front to get your home ready to sell, the more offers you will hopefully receive once this is on the market.

Prioritizing Your Wish List

After I decided to buy a new home, I realized that I probably needed to prioritize the things on my wish list. Since I am not wealthy, I realized that I probably couldn't get everything that I wanted out of a single home--at least, not this time around. Fortunately, I worked with an incredible real estate agent who helped me to figure out which type of property would pay off in the end. Finding a home took a lot of time, but I am really pleased that I found the right one. This blog is all about learning to prioritize your home hunting wish list so that you can have the home and financial situation of your dreams.
